New things are Coming

So just about every year or every other year I will change-up my website, either in layout or  photographically. This year I am doing both.

If you have visited my website lately you will notice it has been stripped down to its bare minimum and I am directing everyone to the blog or facebook page.

There will be a lot of new changes when the site launches. Same Style per say but a lot of new. As well as some announcements. A while back I posted about how I built this company how I would like it to be, and that now things are changing and new things are on the horizon for Sherwood Photography. Some stuff some will not like, and some stuff that some will love. Either way I continue to make Sherwood Photography the kind of company that works for me and my clients. It has never been about what every one else is doing. It has always been about what works best.

I look forward to the launch of the new site and  announcements.

When will it be ready? Not Sure. But Soon. Before the year is over. In the meantime I’d love for you to keep following me either on facebook or this blog.

Damn You Disney!

Yeap.

Damn you Disney for turning me into such a cry baby when we took our son for his First Disney trip.

I cried over every little thing out of pure excitement for Wylan.

HEY! there’s MICKEY — Cry

HEY DONALD —Cry

Oh Look a tree in the shape of Minnie Mouse–CRY

EVERYTHING !. It is a magical place for sure. Because for someone who rarely cries it magically turned me into an instant cry baby.

But there is something so special about seeing your child in Disney and in all its magicalness for the first time. Of course MY SON when we get there was not impressed. I don’t think he understood the magic that was about to be bestowed upon him. I also think the flight and car ride took it out of him so a much needed nap was well.. much needed. Unfortunately that nap didn’t happen till mid afternoon because there was so many things for him to see he couldn’t possibly fall asleep just yet. Needless to say it was a rough morning at Magic Kingdom. But once his belly was full and he was all rested up he had a blast. Annnd Crazy excited to see Mickey Mouse.

Mickey mouse was definitly the highlight for him. Of course we saw Mickey in some shows and what not, but when he saw he could go take a photo with Mickey he hardly could contain himself. It was Sooooooo Awesome to see. And yes I cried. Cause thats the magic of Disney.

As I am typing this damn blog I am saying damn you disney because you are bringing tears to my eyes. Ugghhh. the  magic of Disney I can’t fight it.

We loved it all. He loved it all.

My highlight to see for him was when we went to turtle talk with Crush. All of the kids sitting on the floor crush asks if any of the dudes and dudettes have any questions. So some kids raise their hands and ask silly questions, some of them not even questions, some of them were like I like the color blue in which crush would respond humorously back. THEN Wylan realized he can raise his hand and ask a question. Well goodness graciuos his hand did not go down untill he was called on along with saying ME, ME, ME!!! I have never seen wylan like this. Usually he is the observer so it was really cute to see. So I waited hoping they would call on Wylan to ask his questions. AND CRUSH DID. ” Let’s get the little dude up front in the grey and white striped shirt”. OH! this is it I thought, he actually got chosen. I was so excited for him and nervous thinking what the heck is my 3 year  old going to ask a turtle. I for sure thought it would be something like ” are you friends with piranhas”? Cause he has a fascination with them right now. But it wasn’t. First Crush asks his name. To which i wasn’t sure he would even answer ( its amazing how fast the mind works) But he did answer. He says Wylan, to which Crush responds ” hey little dude Riley”, totally wrong. ha. But thats okay no one ever really gets his name right. So the big moment he asks his questions…………. No pauses he goes right into the question. ” Where did all the fish go long ago?”… (me cracking up cause I dont even know what he means by that-and as the mom you usually understand your childs thought patterns) But crush with his typical humor responds back and answers him. And it was fabulous and I loved every minute of it.

But alas we saw what we really came for. Aside from Mickey mouse. We really came for the Jedi Training. And he was mesmerized.  It’s really the only way i can describe his reaction. He put on his seriuos Jedi/Darth Vader/Darth Maul/Luke Skywalker game face on. It was fabulous. If only we knew you had to sign up to be a part of the Jedi training he too would have been up on the stage with all the other young Jedi’s in training. But we didn’t so we just watched.

Disney was magical. And it always is. The every 2 times I have ever gone in my entire life. If you can dream it Disney has done it or is working on it. It really is a place where” Dreams come true”. The fireworks at Epcot—–cry. Why because its the freaken magic of Disney, and they were amazing, with the lights and water show and you name it, it was going on at this moment. Oh how amazing it had to have been to be Mr. Disney himself. Or atleast be related to him.

Now I have to say with how amazing Disney is, and how great and magical it makes you feel and makes you feel like you can be young forever. I am happy to only go there once every few years. My thought on Disney is with all the money you are spending to go there and you definitly spend, TRAVEL THE WORLD with your family. I would rather take Wylan to Italy, or France, or Spain, or Africa next year than go back to Disney.  Don’t get me wrong it is a fun place. But there is NOTHING like being able to travel and show your child how other people live and show him all of creation , and the different cultures, and dialects and foods. Disney is only a tiny small part of how amazing the rest of the world is. Why waste your money going back to the same thing every year.

So Disney THANK you for a magical moment in our lives. You created an unforgettable moment. We look forward to creating more memories in 3-5 years. In the meantime we have the world to travel.

PS– Yes I am a photographer and Yes I did not bring my cameras. Crazy right. We did however bring the flip and have some unforgettable movie reels. It is true what they say about the shoe makers kids. All we have are phone photos.

Pure Product Photography

It is very rare that I will do product photography. Sometimes I like it. Sometimes I don’t. But this recent shoot for Natural Organic Soaps a New Jersey based Handmade Artisan Soap company was a pleasure. For two reasons: I know the owner very well- she is my mom- and 2 I love the product. So it all came very naturally and organically to photograph.

I was working to create a nice clean fresh, “natural” “organic” look for the soaps. After all it was exactly what the soap was. Natural and Organic. If you have been following my blog and facebook you will have read how much I value clean products that are good for yourself and for the environment. What I love about the soaps is they are handmade with only natural oils. They are cruelty Free ~ No Animal Testing, No Animal Products,  No Detergents, No Sulfates,  No SLS,  No Alcohol, No surfactants, Paraben Free.

Handmade Artisan Soaps

You will notice aside from the amazing handmade artisan soaps, there are natural lip balms & soy clean burning candles.

It is nice to photograph different things everyonce in a while. And still ojects are definitly a challange for me because it hosts no expression I have to make it have that appeal. It’s different. & It’s even different from photographing the details at weddings, like the cake, or jewelry, or table tops.

But I enjoyed photographing this product for sure. It’s nice to expand the horizon.

John and Kate in Spring Lake

I Promise I did not make that rhyme on purpose.

John , so sweet calls me about 2 weeks prior to the shoot we had. He wanted to surprise his wife with a photo shoot of the two of them and her baby belly. He told me that they will be in the Spring Lake area for her baby shower and celebrating their 2 year anniversary. & Since they did not like their wedding photos they wanted to get some really nice photos back in the same area they got married. Only this time it included their sweet soon to be addition. For 2 weeks he held this secret in until 8 am the morning of the shoot. & Kate was surprised, and like all 7 month pregnant mommy to be’s was also not totally about having her photo taken. I can say I absolutely remember not wanting to be photographed at 7 months either. And at 7 months I remember I was ready to have that baby already.  But Kate was amazing. And the two of them were so cute and glowing.

A Converse Kind of Wedding with Lauren and Carl in New York

Here comes another awesome wedding that has been waiting to be blogged!

Lauren and Carl found me by way of a California friend that recommended me.WooHoo!! I’ve gots connections nationwide. I like.

I don’t even know where to begin about Lauren and Carl. I just love love love them.  And I especially loved that they both had converse sneakers on for their wedding. Being as I usually wear black converse sneakers to photograph weddings in it was a match made in wedding photographyness. Only except this was one of the occasions where I didn’t. :/ Ooops.

If you have been following me you will have read that I love all kinds of styles. When we arrived at Lauren’s parents house where she was getting ready it was Country done to perfection. Now we all know country can be welllll…… pretty homely in a bad kind of way. Doilies, and frillies, and make ya want to hurl with checkered craziness. This house was completely the opposite. It was a country-style done right. I literally could have photographed in and around this house for hours. So many awesome antiques and accessories to see. I sometimes got lost in a fade of just looking at all the cool stuff. It was kind of like Pottery Barn went country. It was GREAT!

Lauren and Carl chose the Winding Hills Golf Course in New York for their ceremony and reception location. The grounds were so lush looking. It made me want to golf even though I am hardly a fan of golf. The Scenery was gorgeous!

South Street Seaport New York | WooHoo!

South Street is such a cool place to go. I haven’t been down in this area of New York since before Wylan was born. So at least 4 years ago. Plus I love that it is a quick Ferry ride from Jersey. Going yesterday reminded me I need to go more often.

Karen and Dennis. Another awesome and sweet couple whose wedding I can not wait to photograph. I love love love them.

Both Karen and Dennis live in New York so I thought South Street would be a fun spot to photograph them.  And it definitely was!

Red Head Eyebrows

If you have red hair and want to match your eyebrow color to your hair color, add yellow to your brows instead of red or brown.

Red hair is a lot of gold in brown hair so a nice golden yellow will look more natural because it creates a golden red color to your eyebrow.  Red or brown color can look too dark.
